Font Research
Below is a variety of different fonts similar to the one we want to use for our Digi Pack font;
This font by the Adele 21 album gave us inspiration for using thin white font as it stands out in a simplistic way, especially all in capitol letters to make it stand out further
This font by the Maximum Balloon album gave us inspiration for using spaces between the letters as it looks professional and would fit with the look of our album cover

Promotion Techniques
Below is both a screenshot of the Facebook page we created in order to promote our music video and receive constant audience feedback, along with the teaser trailer released on the Facebook page for viewers to see a preview of a clip from our video. This will assist to the marketing and advertisement of our 'company' and the finished music video, with updates on our page to entice viewers before the final video is released.
Audience Research 3
The video below shows the feedback we received from our classmates based on a montage of shots we put together that would give our audience a rough idea of our video. Their feedback allowed us to acknowledge the good and bad points about some of our shots, therefore giving us a wider range of opinions on how we can improve the video.

Ideal Audience Member - Audience Research
This is Katie Shore. She is 21 and lives in Brighton. Her occupation is a journalist/photographer for the local newspaper, hoping to move to London and work for a more prestigious paper. She also hopes to improve her skills in photography enough so that her pictures will be used in popular geographic magazines. She has a boyfriend that she met on a photography course in London called Craig, whom is 23 years old and lives in Oxford. She lives in a medium sized flat in Brighton near the pier with a few close friends and her family live in a house on the outskirts of Brighton. In her free time she enjoys taking photos, going on walks, hanging out with her friends and boyfriend, travelling and listening to music. Her favourite genre of music is indie pop and her favourite artist is Coldplay. Her favourite song is Yellow by Coldplay and she also enjoys Ben Howard and Jack Garratt. She buys her favourite artist's albums or any that she enjoys the songs of (Digi Pack). She loves listening to covers of songs by hardly known artists as they give an original spin on the lyrics. In regards to her preference of music video content, she enjoys watching more of an equal split between an interesting narrative with performance as it gets boring otherwise. This makes her a perfect audience member for our music video as she fits into the target age group and gender, in addition to this she enjoys the same genre and similar artists to the artist and theme we have chosen.

Class Feedback
In class today, each group received a sheet to write feedback for every other group based on their current work. We had to write what we thought was effective and what could be improved (both for the Digi Pack and the video itself). The feedback Cam and I had for our two drafts of Digi Pack photos and the montage of shots video we made was very helpful as we know what aspects we could change in order to attract more audience. We also know what is good about our work and whether the material we have is appropriate to the song we chose.
Our Feedback;
Group1:
Strengths
(Digi Pack)
- HD quality makes it professional
- Water dripping down the girl's face looks very precise
(The Video)
-The transitions between the shots mix well
- Dark lighting creates effective dark mood
Improvements
(Digi Pack)
- Add subtle text to the shots
(The Video)
- Edit the lip syncing so it's more in time to the song lyrics
Group 2:
Strengths
(Digi Pack)
- Water looks effective
- Matches the video clearly
(The Video)
- It compliments the song well
- Very gloomy and powerful which attracts the eye
- Good use of performance and narrative together
Improvements
(Digi Pack)
- Make it obvious that the performer is involved
(The Video)
- Don't stay too long on one scene, repetitive
Group 3:
Strengths
(Digi Pack)
- Captured in the moment, strong image as it's in HD
- Drops of water frozen in time
(The Video)
- Lighting and smoke helped create a very dark atmosphere
- Lip syncing was accurate
- Use of close ups established characters as being unstable
- Editing was done on the beat making the video flow
Improvements
(Digi Pack)
- Add in font
(The Video)
- Possibly a few more angles of the girl in the bath to show different sides of her personality
- Shots of the sink and bath to establish location

File Organisation
As we have filmed one scene with our Narrative actor (Ania) and the only footage we need for the performer (Harvey) we have arranged the shots in a format that enables us to view and choose particular shots based on the position of the camera and the actor. For example, mid shot standing or close up in bath. This makes our editing more efficient and less time consuming as we won't have to search through every shot to find the one we are looking for. As well as this, in order for the footage to not be lost, we have backed it up onto three different places; 2 hard drives and one drive. This means that if we have technical difficulties we will be able to re-obtain our footage instantly, instead of having to re-shoot.

Questionnaire - Audience Research 2
Cam and I have created a questionnaire in which we can gain relevant information based on our audience's perspectives on both music videos and digi packs. Based on the results, we will find out how popular our creations will be and what type of design is preferred by our audience.

Montage of Performance & Scene 2 Narrative
Cam and I put together a few shots we accumulated over the two days we have filmed for. As these are only a selection of footage we have, we thought we should compose a video in which we can see how effective they would look together along with the lyrics. We will then show this video to audience members in order to receive feedback on our shots so far! There are still things we know to improve on with this video, such as timing the lyrics more efficiently with the performer to enhance the realism that he is singing the song. Also, things in the background that are picked up by the camera will need to be blacked out in the editing process.

Filming Day 1
Below shows a discussion Cam and I had concerning the performance side of our filming, in particular, how we managed to improve our location last minute and the reasons as to why we chose to change ideas.

Test Shots - Performance
Recently, Cam and I tested out the performance side of our video. We were able to see how the shots would look with the help of our smoke machine and coloured lighting. We noticed that as the scene was being shot in darkness with only our artificial lighting, the camera we use needs to be able to pick up as much light as possible. As we were using a Canon 700d, we found that the lens wasn't powerful enough to make the image as clear as we want due to it not being able to pick up much of the limited light available. In order to improve the quality of our filming, we will use a Canon 70d which will pick up more light and give a more improved image and less pigmented. As the walls of the room we are using will be draped with white cloth, the room will brighten up completely from the use of our LED lights. We had inspiration of this animated look from various artists; shown below are the ones we feel are the most appropriate for portraying our ideas.

Bruising Attempts
In these images you can see three attempts of bruising we have tested out for the girl's lower neck and upper shoulder. The bruises would have been caused from her boyfriend when he beat her up, therefore we need to make sure that the makeup looks like it has been caused from fists and fingerprints. When doing this test, we found it difficult to make the makeup look realistic and not go over the top with the colouring, therefore when we practise again we will try to make the makeup minimal, but still effective giving it a realistic effect.
Test Shots - Artificial Bathroom
The video shown below shows a selection of test shots we have done in order to see whether or not our artificial bathroom scene would work effectively with our chosen lighting arrangements.
In the real thing, we will use red gels over this lighting to create the illusion of the location being unrealistic and abstract, but we will use similar angles provided by the slider. This will allow us to get slick shots following a line of movement giving the video a professional aspect. When we shoot this scene again, and in the editing of this part, we will black out the background completely for dramatic effect as in some parts of the video you can see glimpses of other unwanted objects in the room.

Mood Board 2
Our second Mood Board portrays more concepts we have come up with based on our Digi Pack designs. To expand on the idea we have of the disc being an eye, we discussed the design that the coloured part of the eye will be the disc with the rest of the eye as the background, eyelashes included in the image too (explained in the first mood board). For another idea, we thought of having the disc being a bath drain in which the background would be the bath. This creates a sense of interactivity with the audience, along with the effectiveness of blood mixed with mascara tears being washed away down the drain. This streak of liquid will drain down the plughole under the disc, where the removal of the disc will allow the audience to see down the plug. We felt this image would fit accordingly with our location shots being majorly in bathrooms, alongside the main character's emotions showing through her tears.
Audience Research 1
Below is a video of audience research we carried out. In this, we interviewed a range of people we go to school with, asking them questions based on genres and our chosen song.
Casting
When choosing our cast we wanted to involve people outside of our schoolmates, to increase the realism of the piece for our viewers at school. In addition to this, we felt that the quality of the video should be as professional as possible, therefore we use experienced performers who will do the job the way we plan it to be.
For our main character in the narrative parts of our video, we have decided to use my friend Ania to act as the abused girlfriend. We both thought she was the right person for the part as she goes to a performing arts school and has her own YouTube channel. She was also hired to be in a short film called 'The 56 Year Old Boy' by a popular youtuber. This shows that she has previous work in the performing arts field and will provide useful skills for our filming as she is clearly comfortable in front of the camera.

For our performing side of the video, we have chosen Cam's friend Harvey Causon to lip sync the song's lyrics. We decided to use Harvey as he is a skilled singer that enjoys performance and is passionate about singing. We felt that he would be perfect for representing the image needed to portray the original artist's image and include his experience when filming.

Mood Board 1
The pictures below display an array of ideas to show our thought process for the Digi Pack. Our draft idea for the front cover is of a steamed up glass mirror in which the main character (ania) is in the reflection. The title of the album and name of the artist will be written in the condensation on the mirror- condensation typewrite. Next to the mirror will be bathroom tiles to give the cover a realistic feel and provides a simplistic background to have, completing the cover. For the idea of the disk, we have been discussing having an eye filling the disc, only the coloured part and pupil, as this is the round part of the eye- refers to the first shot in our music video of the main characters eye. In comparison to this, we might decide to have the front cover be half our main character's face, shown below, with a tear coming down her face and have the background in black and the text written in the other half of the picture in white.

Storyboard sketching - close up of eye
Over the weekend I filmed my mum sketching our first storyboard. The sketch presented is a close up of ania's (main character) eye with mascara tears coming down her face. The original 10 minute video was condensed to roughly 2 minutes in a time lapse to show the process of the creation of the eye for the audience.

Treatment Video
In this video, Cam and I discuss our concept, characters, lighting, props/set, influences and other research we have collected that have influenced our ideas for our video. As this is our first presentation, we have still got basic ideas of our video's concept and what shots we are hoping to get, therefore our ideas will develop further from this point.
Storyboarding Ideas
We have filmed ourselves brainstorming ideas of our storyboard, and commenting on the ones we have previously done. In this you can see us discussing new ideas of how to make our video more creative and how we can effectively use lyrics from the song and beat of the music with the imagery to connect the two.

Practice Music Video
Here is a practice music video that others and I have made. We learnt about the importance of lip syncing to the realism of the singing, and how to edit the video effectively so that the combination of instruments go in time to the beat of the instruments in the song.
